The SK Shields-SK Telecom Championship 2023 (KRW 1 billion, winner’s purse KRW 200 million), the final event of the 2023 season on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, concluded with the second round of play at Rabiebel Country Club (Old IN, OUT / Par 72 – 6,685 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on November 11.
As it is the final round, the competition for the title is fierce, as is the battle for the top 60 on the money list to secure a regular tour seeding for the 2024 season.
One of the standouts of the tournament was the performance of amateur player Oh Sumin (A-15). He’s been making waves on the adult scene, and we’ve been following him closely.
Oh, who is in her junior year of middle school and will be entering high school next year, wowed the gallery at the 9th Gyochon 1991 Ladies Open in May this season with a long drive of over 300 yards.
Oh carded three birdies and three bogeys in the second round to finish with an even-par total of 1-over 145, good for a share of 12th place.
Only eight players are under par in the tournament, making it difficult to play on the challenging course and cold conditions.
“My approach shots were good today,” said Oh, “and I think I played well in the cold weather.”
When asked what kind of role he wants to play as a golfer, he said, “I want to be a golfer who can make a name for himself around the world like Tiger Woods.”
“I’m doing a good job of preparing myself to be the best player I can be,” he said. “I’ve been practicing more and doing some strength training. I think Tiger Woods is watching me, and I want to be a great player.”
“I want to finish the tournament with an ‘under-par score’ in the final round tomorrow (Dec. 12),” he said of his final round goal. 캡틴토토 주소
Oh was selected to the national team and will play as ‘National Team Oh Sumin’ from the 24th season.
Meanwhile, defending champion Im Jin-hee (25-Angang E&C) carded seven birdies and one bogey for a 6-under-par total of 11-under 133, two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Lee Da-yeon (26-Medi-Hill) at 9-under 131.
Lim, who is enjoying her best year yet with three wins on the season, will become the first player to win four times this season if she holds onto the lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.
“I played better in the first round than in the second round today,” said Lim, “but I think I finished well with a good performance.”
“I don’t have high expectations for the multi-winner,” he said, “but I want to win the ‘beauty of the species’ in the final competition.”
Bang Shin-sil (19-KB Financial Group) and Chung So-i (21-Yellow Tongdak), who both recorded two wins in their “Rookie” seasons, are tied for third at 5-under, while Park Joo-young (33-Dongbu E&C) and Kim Min-ju (21-Yoohan Yanghwa), who set a new record for most wins in a season by reaching the top of the leaderboard in her 279th regular tour event, are tied for fifth at 2-under, and Park Ji-young (27-Korea Land Trust) and Lee Ju-mi (28-Golden Blue) are tied for seventh at 1-under.
Defending champion Park Min-ji (25-NH Investment & Securities) finished in a tie for 60th place at 10-over par.
