‘Rain again’ All 5 KBO League games canceled due to rain… Winter Korean Series?

All five KBO League games were canceled again due to rain.

The ‘2023 KBO League’, which was scheduled to start at 6:30 pm on the 20th, was NC Dinos-Doosan Bears (Jamsil), Lotte Giants-Hanwha Eagles (Daejeon), LG Twins-KT Wiz (Suwon), SSG Landers-Samsung Lions ( Daegu메이저놀이터) and Kiwoom Heroes-KIA Tigers (Gwangju) games were all canceled due to rain.

Among the games canceled today, the Suwon game will be held on October 2nd. The remaining games will be rescheduled at a later date.

The KBO announced a rescheduled schedule of canceled games at the end of last month, but as many as 24 more games were canceled later, making it difficult to plan the schedule.

As the number of games canceled due to rain increased, the burden on KBO League officials increased.

Since the launch of the KBO League, there have been many cases where games were stopped due to rain and then resumed, but you can see this just by looking at a case where the stoppage time exceeded 3 hours (2nd game of KT-Hanwha doubleheader on the 17th). The reason we waited a whopping 204 minutes was because of concerns that the postseason schedule could be disrupted due to too many games being canceled due to rain.

The number of games canceled due to rain reached 90, the most ever. The league will be played during the Hangzhou Asian Games, but as more games are reorganized in the future, it is not easy to schedule a pennant race.

As of now, it appears that the postseason will begin after October 20th. If that happens, the Korean Series, which usually started in late October, will start in early November and end in mid-November. This is a situation where the so-called ‘Winter Korean Series’ could become a reality.

The last time the Korean Series was played in the KBO League in history was the 2020 season. On November 24 of that year, the NC Dinos won the championship by defeating the Doosan Bears in Game 6 of the Korean Series at Gocheok Sky Dome.
